BEIJING: Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, the chairman of the Pakistan Senate Defence Committee, stated at the second “International Forum on Democracy: The Shared Human Values” in Beijing, held prior to the US’ “Summit for Democracy,” that China has become the new global hub as the balance of economic and political power shifts from the West to the East. He also pointed out that Beijing’s emphasis on harmony and mutually beneficial cooperation was prevailing over the narrative that aimed to sow discord. Quoting Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent remarks, he noted that the world was undergoing significant changes, symbolizing the end of Western dominance that had lasted for three centuries.
