ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Karachi (BIEK) Chairman Prof Nasim Ahmed Memon announced that intermediate exams in Karachi will commence on June 1, clarifying that holding them from May 28 was not feasible. Memon explained that conducting both matric and intermediate exams simultaneously in the same centers posed logistical challenges. The board has requested permission from the education minister to extend the exam period by four days to accommodate the scheduling conflict. Earlier, the Sindh government postponed intermediate exams across the province by five days due to the prevailing heatwave. Karachi residents have been enduring high temperatures for weeks, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasting three heatwaves across the country in the next 25 days. The advisory highlighted that elevated atmospheric pressure would lead to heatwave conditions, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, with temperatures expected to be significantly above normal.
