In the first ODI of the three-match series between England women and Pakistan women, England secured a comfortable 37-run victory thanks to Sophie Ecclestone’s impressive bowling performance, where she claimed figures of 3/26.
Batting first, England posted a competitive total of 243/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Alice Capsey was the top-scorer for the hosts with a resilient knock of 44 runs, supported by contributions from Amy Jones, Tammy Beaumont, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and skipper Heather Knight.
Pakistan’s Nida Dar was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets, with support from Aliya Riaz, Nashra Sandhu, and Umm-e-Hani, who each grabbed two wickets.
Chasing 244 for victory, Pakistan women struggled to score freely against England’s disciplined bowling attack. Despite contributions from Muneeba Ali, Sadaf Shams, Najiha Alive, Nida Dar, and Aliya Riaz, Pakistan could only manage 206/9 in their 50 overs.
Sophie Ecclestone led England’s bowling attack with three wickets, while Kate Cross, Lauren Bell, and Charlie Dean took two wickets each.
With England leading the series 1-0, the two teams will now face off in the second ODI in Taunton on May 26th.
