ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 fixtures set to take place at Central Broward Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, face potential disruption due to forecasted rain, which could significantly impact Pakistan’s prospects in the tournament.
The National Weather Service has issued warnings of potential life-threatening floods in several areas of the state.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has expressed concerns over the rainfall and flooding, indicating potential disruptions to critical infrastructure such as major interstates, state and county roadways, airports, schools, and other essential facilities.
In this context, Florida is slated to host the final three matches of Group A, featuring the co-host United States of America (USA) against Ireland, Pakistan against Ireland, and India against Canada.
Should adverse weather conditions result in the abandonment of the match between the USA and Ireland, it could spell the end of Pakistan’s journey in the T20 World Cup 2024, as both teams would share a point each.
Consequently, the USA would advance to the Super 8s stage with five points from four matches, while Pakistan’s chances would depend on their ability to secure a maximum of four points if they defeat Ireland in their final group-stage fixture, scheduled for June 16.
Earlier today, Pakistan’s scheduled practice session was canceled due to a wet outfield at Central Broward Regional Park. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the national team would instead engage in light physical training.
