ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s cricket dynamics are shifting as Vancouver Knights of the Global T20 Canada League have named wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan as their captain, replacing Babar Azam. The franchise made the announcement on social media, also bestowing Rizwan with the title of ‘Sir’ in their statement.
In their Facebook post, Vancouver Knights celebrated Rizwan’s leadership qualities, highlighting his formidable batting and adept wicketkeeping skills, emphasizing his readiness to lead the team to victory in the upcoming GT20 Season 4.
Joining Rizwan in the Vancouver Knights lineup are notable players like Mohammad Amir, Asif Ali, New Zealand’s Michael Rippon, South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius, Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann, and Guyana’s Jeremy Gordon.
The GT20 Canada’s fourth season is scheduled to commence on July 25, with the final set for August 11 in Canada. Seven Pakistani cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Amir, Asif Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Nawaz, will participate in this league.
This tournament will also feature international stars such as Mohammad Nabi, Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, David Wiese, Hazratullah Zazai, David Warner, and Carlos Brathwaite.
The defending champions, Montreal Tigers, clinched the title in 2023 by defeating the Knights in the final. Rizwan, who now leads the Knights, was also part of their squad last year.
