ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials revealed the current workforce statistics of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Aviation .
In the session, officials provided comprehensive updates on Pakistan’s aviation sector. They disclosed that out of the 121 sanctioned positions within the Aviation Ministry, 106 are presently occupied, leaving 15 positions vacant.
Regarding PIA, officials reported that the airline currently operates a fleet of 34 aircraft, with 12 currently grounded. The active fleet consists of 22 aircraft, while an additional 13 are leased but not currently in use.
Furthermore, it was disclosed that PIA employs a total of 10,323 individuals, including 7,399 regular employees.
In addition to discussing PIA’s operational details, the officials mentioned the status of the Roosevelt Hotel, which has been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During its initial year of closure, rooms at the hotel were rented out at a rate of $202 per room.
Highlighting ongoing privatization efforts, it was noted that a consortium of six companies has been pre-qualified for the privatization of PIA. These companies will now proceed to participate in the bidding process for the national airline, following a decision made during a meeting of the Privatisation Commission Board chaired by Federal Privatization Minister Aleem Khan.
