ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Punjab government announced the dissolution of the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) through the Punjab Healthcare Commission (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department (SHC&MED) has issued a notification formalizing the dissolution. This decision follows the provincial cabinet’s approval and has led to the removal of seven commissioners from the Board of Commissioners (BoC) of the PHC. These commissioners include Justice (Retd) Bilal Khan, Dr. Talat Afza, Dr. Riaz Ahmad Tasneem, Sami Ibrahim, Dr. Muhammad Shafiq Pitafi, Dr. Azim ud Din Zahid Lakhvi, and Hamesh Khan.
Earlier, the board faced changes when one of its members, Salman Siddique, resigned, and another, Dr. Umar Farooq Khan, passed away. The dissolution of the commission marks a significant shift in the management of healthcare oversight in the province.
