ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Shibli Faraz, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, has called on Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who also heads the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, to reject the appointment of ad hoc judges to the Supreme Court.
In a letter to the Chief Justice, Faraz expressed his concerns that appointing ad hoc judges might create an impression of partiality, suggesting that such moves could be seen as favoring one party over others in the judiciary. He emphasized that ad hoc appointments should not be justified simply as a means to clear a backlog of cases, especially when there are permanent judges available to fill these roles. Faraz argued that maintaining the integrity of the judiciary is crucial and that temporary appointments should not undermine the perception of fairness in the judicial process.
