ISLAMABAD (PEN) : TV anchor Ayesha Jehanzeb, who recently endured alleged domestic violence at the hands of her husband, firmly denied reports of reconciliation on Friday as she decided to halt the legal battle in court.
Appearing before a local court in Lahore, Jehanzeb faced the proceedings of the physical violence case against her husband, Haris Ali, and recorded her statement. The judge noted the visible signs of violence on her face, remarking that it seemed she had been subjected to “great violence.”
In her statement, Jehanzeb expressed the severity of her ordeal: “Whatever happened [with me] was brutality. It shouldn’t happen to any other woman. However, I accept the decision of the respected elders.” She emphasized that the decision was made in the presence of witnesses and clarified that she didn’t want to pursue the case against her husband, who was arrested earlier this month following the domestic violence incident.
The court remarked that Haris would be granted bail, but his acquittal would be determined after the case challan. This sparked rumors of reconciliation, which Jehanzeb soon refuted. She explained that her decision was not a sign of making peace with Haris but was motivated by her desire to protect her children from the trauma of court appearances.
Jehanzeb announced her intention to file for khula (divorce) on Monday and to retain custody of her children. She had previously filed an attempted murder case on July 10 after a domestic dispute with Haris escalated into alleged severe physical abuse.
Jehanzeb, known for her role in the drama serial “Jannat Se Aagay,” shared her harrowing experience to bring attention to the brutality she faced, hoping it serves as a warning and a call for justice for other women in similar situations. Despite the immense personal and public pressure, her priority remains the well-being of her children and ensuring their safety and stability.
