ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Pakistan women’s cricket team has created history by achieving a remarkable ten-wicket victory in the ongoing Women’s T20 Asia Cup . Until now, various teams had managed to win their respective matches by nine wickets a total of eight times, but none had secured a ten-wicket win.
In a must-win match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, the Girls in Green defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a flawless performance. This win marks Pakistan’s second victory in the tournament, propelled by a stellar all-round team effort. Despite an earlier setback with a loss to India in their first match, Pakistan now stands on the cusp of the semi-finals, boasting four points from their two victories.
The heroes of the day were the opening duo, Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali, who displayed extraordinary skill and composure. Chasing a target of 104 runs, they carried their bats through, reaching the target in just 14.1 overs without losing a single wicket and with 35 balls to spare. Feroza dazzled with a splendid knock of 62 runs off 55 deliveries, adorned with eight boundaries, while Muneeba contributed a solid 37 runs off 30 balls, including four boundaries. This phenomenal performance not only secured the win but also etched Pakistan’s name in the tournament’s history as the first team to win a match by ten wickets.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the clash between Nepal and India in the final match of Group A. For Pakistan, a victory for the Blues would cement their place in the semi-finals.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field. The UAE team struggled to find momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite a valiant effort by skipper Esha Oza (16 off 26) and Theertha Satish (40 off 36), only Khushi Sharma (12 off 13) managed to reach double figures. The Pakistani bowlers, led by Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, and Tuba Hassan, who each took two wickets, and captain Nida Dar, who claimed one, ensured a tight grip on the game.
This victory is more than just a win; it’s a testament to the dedication, skill, and teamwork of the Pakistan women’s cricket team, setting a new benchmark in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
