ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A report from the Housing Department has revealed that more than 90% of housing societies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are operating illegally. The findings show that out of 822 housing societies in the region, 495 are illegal, which accounts for about 60% of the total. Additionally, 247 societies are unregistered, making up 30%, while only 80 housing societies in the entire province are recognized as legal.
The Dera Ismail Khan division is the hardest hit, with 254 illegal housing societies operating in that area.
In a related matter, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued notices to eight private housing societies in Lahore for unlawfully using the name and logo of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). These societies misappropriated WAPDA’s branding to market and sell plots.
The FIA has requested detailed information about these societies from the Joint Registrar of the Punjab Cooperative Housing Society. The agency has emphasized that it will take legal action against any society found to be selling plots while falsely claiming affiliation with government institutions without proper authorization.
