ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Accountability Court has given a final chance for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s lawyers to cross-examine the NAB investigative officer in the significant 190 million pounds case.
The hearing took place at Adiala Jail, overseen by Judge Nasir Javed Rana. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were present, accompanied by their legal team, which included Intezar Panjotha, Naeem Panjotha, and Faisal Fareed Chaudhry. Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi represented the prosecution.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor mentioned that four power of attorney documents on behalf of Bushra Bibi had been submitted: by Salman Safdar, Khalid Yousaf, Mishal Yousaf, and Usman Gul. He noted that Usman Gul was absent due to illness, while there was no update on the other three lawyers.
NAB’s lawyers argued that, despite Usman Gul’s illness, the remaining lawyers should still be summoned to ensure the cross-examination of the last witness could proceed. They emphasized that the Islamabad High Court had instructed them to move forward with the case, expressing concerns that the defense team was deliberately delaying the process.
The court made it clear to the defense attorneys that this was their final opportunity and that they needed to complete the cross-examination of the NAB officer in the next hearing. However, due to the absence of Bushra Bibi’s lawyers, the court decided to postpone the hearing until Friday, insisting that the cross-examination must occur then.
It’s important to note that this marks the 24th hearing where the defense has yet to complete the cross-examination of the last witness, highlighting the ongoing challenges in this high-profile case.
