PM Shehbaz directs including Diamer Bhasha Hydropower Project in CPEC

ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the inclusion of the $8 billion Diamer Bhasha Hydropower Project (DBHP) in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. The project, which aims to generate 18.1 billion units of electricity annually and store 6.4 MAF of water, is partially funded by WAPDA and requires additional foreign financing. Chinese firm PowerChina, already involved in the dam’s construction, is bidding for the next phase. Minister for Water Resources Musadik Malik supports continuing the project if financial closure is achieved, with concerns raised about timely completion and transmission line costs.
