ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s grand jirga underway to address law and order crisis
Opposition, Governor KP and all parties represented in jigra
A grand jirga is currently underway at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar aiming to address the worsening law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the special district of Khyber.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has brought together key political figures and parliamentarians to discuss a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is representing the federal government at the Jirga, alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who is also participating.
Prominent political figures including Emil Wali Khan, Professor Ibrahim, Mohsen Dawar, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, and Sikandar Sherpao are also in attendance. Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, opposition leader Dr. Ibad, and Federal Minister Amir Moqam are part of the discussions.
‘Here for peace in KP beyond political affiliations’
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed gratitude to all participants for responding to his invitation and trusting him to lead the Jirga. He emphasized the importance of setting aside political differences to work for peace, stating, “Today we have gathered here for peace in the province beyond political affiliations.”
The chief minister reiterated that ensuring the safety and protection of citizens, including both the general public and security forces, is the government’s top priority.
He expressed hope that through dialogue, a peaceful solution could be found, remarking that negotiation, not violence, is the key to resolving such issues.
The Jirga, conducted in line with Pashtun traditions, aims to give all political leaders a platform to voice their opinions and suggestions, with the assurance that their views will be fully respected.
