ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Punjab Institute of Language, Art & Culture (PILAC), in collaboration with Punjabi Prachar and Punjabi Lehr, is hosting the second three-day International Punjabi Conference at Gaddafi Stadium, starting today, November 18, and continuing through November 20. This conference brings together a vibrant mix of Punjabi intellectuals, writers, and cultural figures from around the world, including the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and India.
The event will be graced by Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, who will attend as a special guest, adding significance to the gathering. This conference will explore important topics related to Punjabi literature, history, and politics, offering a platform for in-depth discussions and meaningful exchanges.
The conference schedule is filled with a variety of programs that reflect the richness of Punjabi culture. There will be panel discussions, the reading of research papers, book launches, live performances, mushaira (poetry recitals), and even drama. On the first day, renowned writer Mustansar Hussain Tarar will deliver the keynote speech, setting the tone for the discussions to follow.
The conference will delve into critical topics such as the national and political consciousness of Punjabis. A panel discussion featuring Sohail Waraich, Farrukh Sohail Goindi, Nain Sukh, and Shuk Bohra will explore these themes, moderated by Tariq Bhatti. Another discussion will focus on the intersection of Punjabi culture and modern technology, moderated by Mudassar Iqbal.
Prominent Punjabi figures from the worlds of film, politics, and literature will share their perspectives, while comedians Salim Albela and Goga Pasruri will offer a lighthearted touch with their performances.
Further discussions will cover vital issues like the promotion of mother tongue education, with experts such as Jaswant Singh Zafar, Jameel Pal, Sukhi Bath, and Parveen Malik taking part in the conversation. There will also be a session on Punjabi bravery, with Dr. Shabnam Ishaq, Gurcharan Kaur, Shamsa Hussain, and Rubina Jameel reflecting on the legacy of Punjabi heroes.
The conference will celebrate the success stories of rising Punjabi personalities, moderated by Ahmed Raza, and also feature Punjabi Natak (drama) performances, including one by Parmesh Singh.
Literary discussions will be held on the relationship between Punjabi literature and the people, with panelists like Khalid Hussain, Zubair Ahmed, Sahej Preet Mangat, and Khalid Farid Dhalwal, moderated by Dr. Hina Khan. In addition, winners of the Punjabi short film, Punjabi reel, and Punjabi writing competitions will be announced.
Throughout the conference, attendees will also experience cultural expressions such as bhangra and gidda dances, as well as musical performances by Punjabi singers.
