ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan Railways (PR) is set to build a 105-kilometer railway line connecting the Thar Coal mines to Port Qasim, a major development aimed at improving the country’s coal transportation infrastructure.
An official from the Ministry of Railways shared that the contract for the project has already been awarded, with plans to complete the construction by October 2025. “This project is crucial for strengthening Pakistan’s bulk transportation capabilities,” the official explained, adding that it is in line with broader economic goals to enhance the country’s industrial growth.
The initiative is a joint venture, with funding from both the Sindh provincial government and the federal government. The new rail link, running from Islamkot to Chhor, is expected to significantly improve the movement of coal across Pakistan, offering a more efficient and cost-effective transportation route. This will not only support the growing coal industry but also benefit key sectors like cement and textiles, providing them with a more affordable and reliable source of fuel for their operations.
This railway project promises to be a game-changer, opening up new economic opportunities and making a vital resource more accessible for industries across the nation.
