ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Smog continues to severely impact public health in Lahore, as the city ranked as the second most polluted in the world on Saturday, with an alarming average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 369. In some areas of the city, the AQI exceeded 450, a level considered highly hazardous to health.
According to the Meteorological Department, Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 14°C, with the maximum expected to reach around 25°C.
On Friday, Lahore had briefly topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with an AQI of 498 at 9:15 AM, as per the Swiss monitor IQAir. Specific areas like Cantonment and DHA were hit particularly hard, with AQI levels soaring to 698 and 565, respectively—well beyond safe limits.
However, later in the day, Delhi overtook Lahore, becoming the most polluted city in the world with an AQI of 394. In the morning, Delhi had ranked second with an AQI of 449.
The persistent smog has become a serious health crisis, with people in Lahore and other affected cities facing increased respiratory problems and other health risks. The situation remains dire, underscoring the urgent need for long-term solutions to combat air pollution.
