ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Asra Hussain Raza, a 26-year-old Pakistani woman, tragically lost her life in a mid-air collision between a passenger plane and a U.S. military helicopter. She was aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a Black Hawk helicopter. Just moments before the crash, Asra had texted her husband, Hamaad, saying she would land soon—but she never sent another message.
Her father-in-law, Hashim Raza, shared the heartbreak of losing Asra, describing her as a loving and caring person who dreamed of improving public health. She had recently earned her master’s degree from Columbia University and worked in Washington, D.C., hoping to make a difference. Asra was also known for her love of cooking and caring nature, often calling loved ones just to say, “I love you.”
Asra and Hamaad, both graduates of Indiana University, had been married for two years. Hamaad, an accountant, is now left to cope with the loss of his wife.
