ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma has made a remarkable leap in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, climbing 38 places to secure the second spot after his phenomenal performance in the T20I series against England.
Sharma’s 135-run knockoff 54 balls in the final T20I set a new record for the highest individual score by an Indian in men’s T20Is, featuring an incredible 13 sixes. He reached his century in just 37 deliveries, making it the second-fastest T20I century by an Indian cricketer.
With 855 rating points, Australia’s Travis Head continues to hold the top spot in the rankings. Sharma’s rise, however, pushed fellow Indian Tilak Varma down to third place, while Suryakumar Yadav remains in fifth.
Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi also made strides in the rankings, moving up four places to sixth after taking five wickets in the series against England.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s top batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have slipped one position each, now ranking seventh and ninth, respectively.
Among other notable movements, Australia’s Steve Smith climbed three spots to claim the fifth position in the rankings.
Sharma’s meteoric rise in the rankings cements his status as one of the most promising young cricketers in international T20 cricket, and his explosive batting performances have further strengthened India’s lineup ahead of upcoming tournaments.
