ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s top-order batter, Saim Ayub, has been sidelined for over a month due to a right ankle fracture, and it’s expected that he will need at least another month to fully recover.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provided an update to fans on Ayub’s condition, reassuring them that he is making good progress in his rehabilitation, which will continue in England. After undergoing a series of MRI scans, X-rays, and medical evaluations, Ayub has been ruled out for 10 weeks from the date of his injury, which occurred on January 3.
The PCB’s statement also noted that Ayub’s potential availability for the New Zealand tour will depend on him passing all required fitness tests and medical evaluations.
Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand will take place from March 16 to April 5, including five T20Is and three ODIs. This will be followed by the Pakistan Super League starting on April 8. Due to his injury, Ayub was unfortunately left out of the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, which will be held in both Pakistan and Dubai (with India’s matches staged solely in Dubai).
The PCB clarified that the decision to exclude him from the Champions Trophy was made in consideration of his long-term health, emphasizing that Ayub is a key player for Pakistan, and his well-being is the board’s top priority.
Ayub, who has been a vital part of Pakistan’s batting lineup, sustained the injury while fielding in a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town last month. After the injury, he was sent to London for specialized medical treatment, and fans are hopeful to see him back on the field soon.
