Islamabad (PEN) : The ongoing 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, have captured global attention, highlighting the region’s growing influence in international sports. In recognition of this grand event, China Media Group in collaboration with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan, organized a vibrant and inspiring ceremony at NUML University, Islamabad.
The event was graced by Mr. Chen Peng, Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, who attended as the Guest of Honor, along with the other high-level diplomats from Embassy of People’s Republic of China. The ceremony celebrated Pakistan-China cooperation in sports, underlining the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations, not only in economic and cultural spheres but also in athletic excellence.
During his keynote speech, Mr. Chen Peng emphasized that the participation of over 1,200 athletes in the 9th Asian Winter Games stands as a testament to China’s successful hosting of international sporting events. He also highlighted how, despite the diversity of Asian cultures, the region shares common aspirations and a spirit of unity through sports.
Addressing the gathering, Major General (Retd.) Shahid Mahmood Kayani, Rector of NUML University, extended his congratulations to China for the successful execution of the Asian Winter Games. He urged Pakistani youth to draw inspiration from China’s rapid development and underscored the importance of sports collaboration between the two countries. Adding to the discussions, former Pakistani Olympian, Ms. Sadaf Siddiqui, who represented Pakistan at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, commended China’s exemplary sports infrastructure and athlete support programs. She noted that China’s meticulous planning and investment in sports serve as a valuable model for Pakistan to follow.
A special moment during the event was the speech by Ms. Musarrat, Director of China Media Group (Islamabad Station). She recited the poetry of Allama Iqbal, inspiring young attendees and reinforcing the spirit of China-Pakistan friendship. She also emphasized the pivotal role of China Media Group in fostering bilateral cooperation.

Students participated in kabaddi, energizing the audience with their spirited play. A standout ping pong match featured an exciting face-off between a high-level diplomat from the Chinese Embassy and a determined NUML student, capturing the true spirit of friendly competition and cultural exchange. The event also included thrilling contests in tug of war, badminton, and a lively sack race, which amplified the festive mood and showcased athletic excellence. The vibrant atmosphere was filled with contagious joy, as competitors demonstrated humor, passion, and determination. China Media Group recognized outstanding talent with awards, igniting a competitive spark among all participants. Attendees appreciated the initiative, emphasizing that such events not only strengthen Pakistan-China sports collaboration but also inspire greater youth participation in international competitions.
