ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after their match against South Africa in the Tri-Nation Series. The penalties come after the players violated the ICC Code of Conduct during the game played in Karachi on Wednesday.
Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s fast bowler, was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching Article 2.12, which covers “inappropriate physical contact” during an international match. The incident occurred in the 28th over of South Africa’s innings, when Shaheen made physical contact with batter Matthew Breetzke while obstructing him as he ran a single, which led to a tense confrontation between the two players.
Meanwhile, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam were fined 10% of their match fees for celebrating too aggressively after Temba Bavuma’s run-out in the 29th over. Their actions were deemed to have violated Article 2.5, which relates to using language, actions, or gestures that could provoke an aggressive response from a batter following their dismissal.
In addition to the fines, all three players received one demerit point each on their disciplinary records. Fortunately, none of the players had any previous offenses in the past two years.
The players have accepted the sanctions, and no formal hearings will take place. Despite the disciplinary actions, Pakistan emerged victorious from the match, securing a historic win that propels them into the Tri-Nation Series final, where they’ll face New Zealand on February 14.
