ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) until March 12 to submit its response in the case regarding the intra-party elections.
A three-member bench, led by Sindh Member Nisar Durrani, conducted the hearing. During the session, PPP’s lawyer, Sajad Tanoli, explained that party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is currently in the United States, and Senator Farooq H. Naek is unavailable due to his Senate commitments. As a result, they requested more time to prepare and submit a response.
Nisar Durrani reminded the court that PPP had conducted intra-party elections on January 6, 2021, and that these elections are meant to last for four years. However, a show-cause notice had been issued because the party failed to hold elections within the required timeframe.
An ECP member from Punjab asked how much time PPP would need to submit its response. In reply, Tanoli requested a one-month extension.
The Commission agreed to grant the extension until March 12 and adjourned the hearing for now.
