ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The live broadcast of the China Media Group (CMG)’s cultural gala celebrating the 2025 Chinese Lantern Festival garnered 459 million views on all platforms, an increase of 30 percent compared to last year, CMG announced on Thursday.
CMG’s 2025 Lantern Festival Gala was broadcast on Wednesday evening to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival, which was widely applauded by the global audience.
A total of 168 hot topics related to the event, such as “The Lantern Festival is fantastic!” and “core characters Ne Zha and Ao Bing attend the Lantern Festival,” trended on multiple social media platforms.
From CMG’s Spring Festival Gala to the Lantern Festival Gala, the heritage and innovative expressions of Chinese culture not only bring joy and warmth to audiences at home and abroad but also become an important window for the world to understand China.

In terms of international broadcasting, CGTN published reports related to the gala in 82 languages.
Meanwhile, Russian TV channel Big Asia, leading Spanish-language American media company Telemundo, the UK’s ALBUK TV, Burundian News Agency, India’s Asian News International, Japan’s Tokyo-based online news site Record China, and many other overseas mainstream media broadcast and reprinted relevant reports.
The Lantern Festival Gala’s promotional videos and posters were launched on 1,884 public screens in 16 countries and regions, including Germany, Italy, Russia, Peru, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region, allowing global audiences to experience the festive atmosphere of the Chinese Lantern Festival and the beautiful scene of family reunions.

The Lantern Festival, observed on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, was celebrated on February 12 this year. It marked the conclusion of the Spring Festival celebrations.
The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is a cornerstone of Chinese culture, centered on family reunions, festive traditions and an unparalleled travel rush. This year’s celebrations held an even greater significance as it marked the first Spring Festival since it was inscribed in UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
