ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the prize money for the 2025 Champions Trophy, set to kick off on February 19, and it’s sure to get everyone excited.
After an eight-year hiatus, the ICC Champions Trophy returns with eight teams competing for a massive grand prize of $2.24 million. It’s going to be a thrilling contest, with the runners-up taking home $1.12 million, and each of the losing semi-finalists earning $560,000. The total prize pool has seen a remarkable 53% increase since the 2017 edition, reaching a staggering $6.9 million.
Every match will be crucial, as each win in the group stages will bring in over $34,000 for the winning team. Teams finishing fifth or sixth will get $350,000 each, while the teams in seventh and eighth place will receive $140,000. On top of that, all eight teams are guaranteed $125,000 just for taking part.
This event is particularly special, as it’s the first time Pakistan will host an ICC tournament since 1996. The competition will feature eight teams, divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The 2025 Champions Trophy will be held every four years, bringing together the best ODI teams in the world. Meanwhile, the Women’s Champions Trophy will debut in 2027, in a T20 format.
ICC Chair Jay Shah shared his excitement, saying, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 is a milestone for cricket, bringing back a tournament that celebrates the highest level of ODI talent. Every match will be critical, and the generous prize fund highlights our commitment to investing in the sport and preserving the global prestige of our events.”
“Beyond the financial rewards, this tournament fuels fierce competition, captivates fans around the world, and plays a crucial role in ensuring the future growth and sustainability of cricket for generations to come.”
