ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that even though different parties may have different understandings on international rules, the common understanding is to uphold the international system with the UN as its core, and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while answering questions at the “China in the World” event at the ongoing Munich Security Conference.
Responding to a question on how to address the crisis facing the international order and avoid “double standards” in international rules, Wang said China had developed within the current order and is a beneficiary of this order.
“What we need to do is to promote the development of this order in a more just and reasonable direction in accordance with the wishes of most countries,” he said.
China is aware of its international responsibilities and is willing to provide more public goods to the international community, Wang said. He added that the proposal of a series of global initiatives by China is a call to the international community to take action and work together to solve the growing development, security and governance deficits.
China has also proposed the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, which has received understanding, recognition and support from more countries, he said, adding that China will continue to make contributions to the implementation of those important concepts.
