ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to rename the historic Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, dedicating it to Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has approved the renaming, with official sources confirming that a proposal has already been prepared by the provincial sports ministry. The matter is expected to be presented for final approval during the upcoming cabinet meeting on Friday (Today).
In addition to the name change, the stadium is also undergoing significant renovation and beautification work. A spokesperson for the KP government stated, “With the approval of the provincial government, extensive upgrades are being made to enhance the stadium’s infrastructure.” These improvements aim to modernize the stadium and provide a better experience for fans and players alike.
Arbab Niaz Stadium, a historic cricket venue, was originally named in honor of the late Arbab Niaz, a former mayor of Peshawar and a federal minister. This renaming marks a significant step in honoring Imran Khan’s legacy, reflecting his influence on Pakistani politics and sports.
