ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif landed in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday for a two-day official visit, which is being hailed as a significant step towards strengthening the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Upon his arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, he was warmly welcomed by senior Azerbaijani officials, as confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The visit is packed with high-level meetings, as Shehbaz Sharif is set to hold discussions with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and key members of the Azerbaijani government. The main focus of these talks will be to explore opportunities for expanding trade, increasing investment, and enhancing cooperation in critical areas such as energy, defence, and cultural exchange. Additionally, both leaders are expected to delve into joint strategies for combating climate change, an issue that has gained increasing importance in international relations.
The PMO highlighted that these discussions will be integral to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. One of the major aspects of the visit is the signing of multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs), which will likely set the stage for long-term cooperation in various fields.
A key event during the visit is the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum, scheduled for Monday. Here, business leaders from both countries will come together to explore new trade opportunities and potential joint ventures. This forum will serve as a platform for fostering business-to-business collaboration, opening doors to deeper economic ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is a high-level delegation of ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Investment and Privatisation Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Overseas Pakistanis Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the PM Syed Tariq Fatemi. This prominent delegation underscores the importance of the visit and the commitment to advancing cooperation between the two nations.
This visit not only marks a diplomatic milestone but also opens new avenues for economic, cultural, and strategic collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
