ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Young Pakistani footballer Muhammad Riaz, who has faced significant financial difficulties, has received a much-needed boost after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended support to him. This gesture follows a surge in media coverage regarding Riaz’s struggles, including a viral video of him preparing jalebis (a traditional sweet) at a local shop to make ends meet.
In a meeting with Riaz, the Prime Minister provided a cheque worth Rs 2.5 million and offered the talented player a government job to secure his future. Expressing appreciation for the young athlete’s resilience, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s youth and helping them achieve their potential. “It is our duty to provide talented youth with the resources they need to succeed and promote the country’s positive image globally,” he said.
Riaz, who represented Pakistan in the 2018 Asian Games, thanked the Prime Minister for his support and expressed hope for a brighter future. “I am grateful for the encouragement and the resources provided to athletes like myself,” Riaz said, reflecting his optimism for continuing his career in football.
In addition to the government’s support, the Pakistan Football League (PFL) has also announced a cash prize of Rs 1 million for Riaz, further solidifying the nation’s backing for the promising football star.
This financial assistance is seen as an important step in fostering Pakistan’s athletic talent and addressing the challenges faced by young athletes in the country. With these efforts, Riaz is now better positioned to continue his athletic career and contribute to Pakistan’s sports scene on the global stage.
