ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistani cricketer Aamir Jamal has been slapped with a hefty fine of PKR 1.3 million for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) code of conduct. The fine was imposed after Jamal was seen wearing a hat with a political slogan during an interview during the England series.
Details of the Fine and Other Penalized Players
The fine is part of a broader crackdown on Pakistani cricketers who have been penalized for various breaches of conduct during recent series. Sources reveal that over PKR 3 million in fines have been levied on players from the England home series to the South Africa tour.
Along with Aamir Jamal, three other players were fined PKR 500,000 each for violating team protocols during the Australia series. These players, whose names have not been publicly disclosed by the PCB, were penalized for returning late to their hotel.
Furthermore, four players faced penalties during the South Africa series for breaking curfew rules. Among those fined were Salman Ali Agha, Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, and Abbas Afridi.
PCB’s Stance on Disciplinary Actions
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has maintained that disciplinary matters are internal affairs, and they are not typically disclosed publicly in order to protect the reputations of the players involved. The board’s stance is that such matters are handled privately to prevent further damage to the players’ standing in the cricketing community.
Background to the Fines and Growing Scrutiny
The fines come at a time when Pakistan’s national cricket team is under intense scrutiny. The team’s early exit from the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has heightened attention on players’ behavior both on and off the field. The PCB’s disciplinary actions are seen as a way to ensure that players adhere to strict professional standards.
While the fines have stirred some controversy, they serve as a reminder to players of the importance of maintaining professionalism at all times, especially in the public eye. The team will now be looking to regroup and focus on their performance in upcoming international fixtures.
