ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Ukrainian military forces successfully intercepted 90 out of 174 drones launched by Russia during an overnight assault, the country’s air force confirmed on Monday.
The air force reported that 70 of the drones were neutralized using electronic warfare tactics, which redirected the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from their intended targets. The affected areas included Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions, according to the military’s official statement on Telegram.
The ongoing attacks have particularly intensified on Odesa, a critical region for Ukraine’s maritime exports. For the past three weeks, Russian forces have been consistently launching drone and missile strikes in the area.
The bombardment resulted in civilian damage, with one person injured during the attack. The assault caused significant destruction, including damage to a kindergarten, a private residence, a shop, and a passenger car. Additionally, Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper reported that around 500 residents in the suburbs were left without electricity due to the damage to local energy infrastructure.
This incident is part of a broader Russian military strategy, which has involved extensive drone strikes targeting Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian areas in various regions of the country.
As tensions remain high, Ukraine’s military continues to bolster its air defense capabilities to protect vital assets and civilian infrastructure against these ongoing assaults.
