ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In a series of violent incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the past 24 hours, six militants were killed, while a police officer was martyred, and another injured in separate attacks. The incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by the region as authorities continue their fight against terrorism.
Police Officer Martyred in Bannu Attack
In Bannu, a police officer, identified as Lower Head Constable Arman Khan, was killed when armed motorcyclists ambushed him on Miramshah Road. The assailants targeted Khan while he was performing security duties at the Judicial Complex. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving Khan to succumb to his injuries. His body was later transported to the Police Lines, where his funeral was attended by local police officials, elders, and family members.
Repelled Attack in Lakki Marwat
Meanwhile, in Lakki Marwat, security forces successfully repelled a militant attack on a police station in Serai Gambila town. The attack, which occurred late on Sunday night, involved militants using both light and heavy weapons. However, police forces fought back effectively, and the militants were forced to retreat after a 15-minute gun battle. Remarkably, all police officers involved in the clash remained unharmed.
Police Operation in Kurrum Par
Further operations were carried out in the Kurrum Par area of KP, where police successfully destroyed terrorist hideouts. The operation began after militants attacked the Dadiwala police station and Abbasa Khattak police post, leading to a fierce shootout that resulted in the death of one militant. Authorities uncovered a series of long caves and tunnels used by militants as hiding spots, indicating the organized nature of these criminal networks. These sanctuaries were believed to have been used for planning further attacks.
Gunfight in Khyber District
In Khyber district, the military carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) following reports of militant activity. Security forces engaged in a gun battle with militants in the Tor Darra area, killing three militants in the process. The operation continues to underline the ongoing efforts by the military to dismantle militant networks in the region.
Grenade Attack in Khuzdar
On the civilian front, a grenade attack on a police officer’s residence in Khuzdar, Balochistan, left five family members injured. The attack took place when armed assailants on motorcycles threw a grenade into the home of SHO City Police Station, Abdul Qadir Sheikh. The explosion injured the officer’s father and four of his children. The victims were immediately transferred to a local hospital, with three of them being identified as Abdul Ghaffar, Bushra, and Afshan. The officer’s father, who sustained severe injuries, was later moved to Karachi for further treatment.
