ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Sindh government has declared March 22 as a holiday for all educational institutions across the province in observance of Youm-e-Ali, the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib.
Holiday for Educational Institutions
According to a notification from the School Education Department, both public and private schools will remain closed on March 22 to mark the significant day. The holiday comes as part of the annual observance of Youm-e-Ali, which holds deep religious significance for Muslims, particularly within the Shia community.
Commemoration of Hazrat Ali’s Martyrdom
Youm-e-Ali is observed on the 21st of Ramazan to honor the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali, the fourth caliph of Islam. Hazrat Ali was fatally injured during an attack by the Kharijite dissident Ibn Muljim on the 19th of Ramazan in 40 AH (661 CE) in Kufa, Iraq. He passed away two days later, on the 21st of Ramazan.
A Day of Reverence
The day is observed with solemn prayers and tributes across the country, especially in Sindh, where it is marked by various religious activities and commemorations. The Sindh government’s decision to close schools on this day reflects the importance of the occasion in the province’s cultural and religious calendar.
