ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The federal government has officially declared a three-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the break will begin on Monday, March 31, and last through Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Moon Sighting Committee to Meet for Eid Confirmation
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, in collaboration with zonal committees, is set to meet on Sunday evening, March 30, to sight the Shawwal moon. The sighting will confirm the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
The meeting will be held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, where religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other stakeholders will examine reports from across Pakistan to determine the exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Astronomical Forecast and Moon Visibility
The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has provided an astronomical forecast, predicting that the Shawwal moon will be visible on March 30. This suggests that Eid-ul-Fitr will likely fall on March 31, 2025, in Pakistan, although the final confirmation will be made based on the moon sighting reports.
As per Islamic tradition, the start of Ramadan, Eid, and other significant months is determined by the sighting of the new moon. Therefore, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will rely on testimonies from across the country to make a formal announcement regarding the commencement of Shawwal.
