ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s travel and tourism industry is on track to generate more than $4 billion in revenue by 2025, according to recent data from Statista. The sector is projected to grow at a robust annual rate of 6.75% between 2025 and 2029, with the market volume expected to reach $5.53 billion by the end of the decade.
Growth Driven by Domestic and International Tourism
Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), attributed this positive outlook to the increasing number of both domestic and international travelers drawn to the country’s rich cultural heritage and scenic natural attractions. He emphasized that domestic tourism is playing a pivotal role in this growth, as more Pakistanis choose to explore their own country.
Rana noted several factors driving this trend, including improved infrastructure, rising disposable incomes, and a growing sense of national pride. Social media platforms and online booking systems have also made travel planning more accessible, further fueling the demand for local tourism.
International Interest on the Rise
Alongside domestic tourism, international interest in Pakistan is also rising. Global media outlets such as the BBC, CNN, and the Financial Times have recently highlighted the country as one of the top destinations to visit in 2025, further boosting its tourism appeal.
Rana highlighted that government initiatives, such as enhanced security measures, infrastructure upgrades, and easier visa facilitation, are key contributors to attracting international visitors. Moreover, the expansion of international flight routes and increased private sector investment in the hotel industry are expected to further elevate Pakistan’s tourism profile on the global stage.
The Path Forward
With these factors in play, Pakistan’s tourism sector is poised for a bright future. Continued improvements in security, direct flight connectivity, and marketing efforts are likely to increase confidence among international tourists, solidifying Pakistan’s position as a must-visit destination for travelers worldwide.
As the country’s tourism industry evolves, these developments provide a promising outlook for both economic growth and the promotion of Pakistan’s unique cultural and natural assets.
