ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The inaugural briefing session of the Pakistan-Brazil Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) took place on Wednesday at the Parliament House, where both nations explored avenues to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation across various sectors.
The session, chaired by Barrister Aqeel Malik, Minister of State for Law and Justice and Convener of the Pakistan-Brazil PFG, underscored the significance of bilateral and economic diplomacy. Malik emphasized the necessity for fostering people-to-people connections and advocated for the exploration of collaborative opportunities in fields such as agriculture, dairy farming, research, education, and cultural exchange.
Key Areas of Cooperation Discussed
The meeting saw a comprehensive exchange of ideas on several key areas where both countries could cooperate for mutual benefit. Discussions focused on enhancing trade, investment, and educational exchanges. The importance of high-level visits and parliamentary exchanges was also highlighted, aiming to strengthen diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Brazil.
Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, a member of the PFG, highlighted the group’s role in facilitating parliamentary exchanges. He suggested organizing a meeting with the Ambassador of Pakistan and trade attaché in Brazil to discuss further cooperation and opportunities.
Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa stressed the need to emphasize trade and investment, proposing that both countries work together to unlock mutual economic benefits. Asia Naz Tanoli, another group member, called for more robust educational and cultural exchanges, alongside collaborations in agriculture and training programs.
Farah Naz Akbar echoed the importance of educational cooperation and recommended that discussions be held with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to explore scholarship opportunities. Additionally, Rana Ansar advocated for strengthening cooperation in science and technology, along with cultural exchange programs between the two nations.
Next Steps in Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Looking ahead, Barrister Aqeel Malik proposed that the next meeting be organized virtually with the Ambassador and trade attaché of Pakistan in Brazil, followed by a physical meeting with the Brazilian Ambassador to Pakistan. This approach would facilitate continued dialogue and progress on key areas of cooperation.
The PFG’s efforts signal a promising future for the Pakistan-Brazil relationship, as both nations look to leverage their shared interests to foster economic growth, cultural ties, and educational opportunities.
