ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A terrorist attack on the Jhangi check post, located near Taunsa Sharif in Dera Ghazi Khan, was successfully thwarted by security forces earlier this week. The attack, which involved a well-coordinated assault by a group of heavily armed terrorists, was swiftly repelled, ensuring the safety of the security personnel stationed at the post.
Details of the Attack
According to a police spokesperson, the attack was carried out by a group of 20 to 25 militants who launched their assault from multiple directions. Armed with rocket launchers and modern automatic weapons, the terrorists attempted to breach the security check post. The spokesperson confirmed that the attackers were using sophisticated weaponry during the attack.
However, the quick and effective response of the police forces stationed at the check post led to a fierce exchange of gunfire. “The terrorists were forced to retreat due to our officers’ timely and effective counterfire,” the police spokesperson stated.
Casualties and Response
During the exchange of fire, the attackers reportedly suffered casualties, although the exact number of casualties on both sides has not been confirmed. Following the failed assault, authorities initiated a search operation in the surrounding area to locate and apprehend the fleeing terrorists.
The spokesperson further noted that a specialized quick response force had been dispatched to assist in securing the area and to support the ongoing operation. While gunfire subsided by the end of the day, authorities confirmed that intermittent exchanges occurred throughout the operation.
Ongoing Efforts to Track Down Terrorists
The police have intensified their efforts to track down the perpetrators, with additional security measures put in place around the area. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are working to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Pakistan’s border areas, where such attacks are not uncommon. Authorities have pledged to continue their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
