ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In a bid to ensure the safety of women during the bustling Eid shopping season, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has deployed dedicated lady police squads across several cities in the province. These squads will focus on preventing harassment, snatching, and other crimes in marketplaces.
Special Units to Provide Security Across Punjab
The Punjab government has stationed specialized police units to safeguard women and families shopping during Eid. A unique initiative involves a special bicycle squad in Okara, consisting of 50 female officers. These officers will patrol the streets and markets, enhancing security during peak shopping hours.
In addition to the bicycle squad, female officers will also be deployed in motorcycle squads and foot patrols in various cities, including Okara, Renala, and Depalpur, ensuring constant surveillance and a quick response to any potential threats.
Active Patrols in Key Cities
Apart from Okara, lady police officers are actively securing shopping centers in other cities, including Bhakkar, where similar patrols are ensuring that women can shop without fear. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to make marketplaces safer during the festive season, offering women a sense of security as they prepare for Eid celebrations.
A Proactive Step for Women’s Safety
The deployment of these female police squads highlights the provincial government’s commitment to tackling safety concerns and empowering women in public spaces. By having female officers on the frontlines, the Punjab government aims to provide a more approachable and effective means of security, addressing the unique challenges faced by women in crowded shopping areas.
