ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan and the United States are set to hold a Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in June 2025 as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating the growing threat of terrorism, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement during a meeting with Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by key officials, including State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry, US Political Counselor Zach Harkenrider, and Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha.
Growing Terrorism Threat Calls for International Collaboration
Naqvi emphasized that terrorism is an international challenge that requires enhanced global cooperation to effectively address the issue. Both sides discussed strategies for expanding collaboration, with a particular focus on counterterrorism efforts.
Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express, among other violent incidents, and expressed her condolences to the families of the victims. She reiterated the importance of strong counterterrorism partnerships between Pakistan and the US.
Pakistan’s Commitment to Combating Terrorism
In response, Minister Naqvi assured the US that Pakistan is taking decisive actions against terrorism, including formulating a comprehensive strategy to tackle the issue. He also acknowledged the recognition of Pakistan’s efforts in fighting terrorism, specifically citing US President Donald Trump’s appreciation of Pakistan’s actions.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The two sides also discussed matters of mutual interest and further cooperation, including the repatriation of illegal immigrants residing in the United States. Naqvi assured that Pakistan would work closely with the US to facilitate the process.
The meeting also set the stage for the upcoming Pakistan-US Caucus meeting, which is scheduled to take place on April 30, 2025, in New York, further strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
