ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Punjab Police successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on the Lakhani checkpost, located near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border in Dera Ghazi Khan, preventing potential casualties and securing the area.
Attack on Checkpost
According to a spokesperson, a group of 20 to 25 terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the checkpost, utilizing a range of heavy weapons, including mortars, rocket launchers, and sniper rifles. The terrorists attacked from multiple directions, aiming to overwhelm the police post.
Despite the scale of the attack, the police force, including the Elite Force and Special Operations Unit (SOU), acted swiftly and with great bravery, managing to repel the attackers and force them to retreat.
Casualties and Outcome
During the confrontation, one terrorist was reported dead, while several others sustained injuries. Remarkably, no police personnel were harmed during the operation, a testament to the force’s professional readiness and operational efficiency.

Punjab’s Inspector General (IG) Dr. Usman Anwar lauded the Dera Ghazi Khan police for their successful defense and counteroffensive. He emphasized the importance of continuing such operations to maintain security in the region.
The operation was led by RPO Dera Ghazi Khan, Captain (R) Sajjad Hassan Khan, and DPO Syed Ali, ensuring a quick and effective response to the threat.
Heightened Security Measures
In the aftermath of the attack, security in the border areas has been intensified. Ongoing search operations are being conducted by police teams to neutralize any remaining threats and prevent future attacks.
