ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Southern parts of Sindh and Punjab remain in the grip of an intense heatwave, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting persistently high temperatures and advising residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related health risks.
Heatwave Persists With No Immediate Relief
The PMD has warned that the ongoing spell of extreme heat is expected to continue through the week, particularly affecting the southern plains of the country. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seek shelter from direct sunlight whenever possible.
Karachi Weather: High Humidity Adds to Discomfort
Karachi will continue to face hot and dry conditions over the next 24 hours. The city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 23.5°C on Wednesday morning, with daytime temperatures expected to climb between 38°C and 40°C. With humidity levels reaching 74 percent, the PMD notes that the heat index may feel significantly higher, exacerbating the discomfort.
Record-Breaking Temperatures Across Sindh and Punjab
Several cities in Sindh witnessed extreme temperatures on Tuesday, with Jacobabad reaching a high of 44°C. Larkana, Lasbela, Mithi, Dadu, and Mirpur Khas all recorded 43°C, while Karachi peaked at 41°C. In Punjab, Lahore saw a maximum temperature of 38°C.
Other cities also experienced elevated temperatures, including Peshawar and Islamabad at 35°C, Muzaffarabad at 33°C, Quetta at 25°C, and Gilgit at a relatively cooler 22°C.
Health Advisory Issued by Authorities
With no immediate signs of a drop in temperatures, health authorities and the PMD are advising residents to be vigilant against the dangers of heatstroke and dehydration. The public is encouraged to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
The PMD has stated that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and issue timely alerts should conditions worsen further.
