ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Punjab Cabinet has approved the introduction of a ‘Ration Card Scheme’ aimed at providing financial relief to approximately 1.5 million workers and laborers across the province. This initiative was confirmed during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore.
Monthly Assistance for Beneficiaries
Under the scheme, eligible workers will receive a monthly financial assistance of 10,000 Pakistani Rupees. The program is designed to alleviate the financial burden on laborers, particularly those in the informal sector, by providing direct monetary support for essential needs.
Regulatory Amendments to Strengthen Food Security
In conjunction with the Ration Card Scheme, the Punjab Cabinet has approved amendments to key regulations to enhance food security:
– Food Grains Licensing Control Order, 1957: An amendment has been made to ensure that flour mills are required to procure a minimum of 25% of their wheat supply from local sources.
– Punjab Consumer Protection Act, 2005: The Act has been amended to grant Additional Session Judges the authority to function as Consumer Court judges, thereby expediting the resolution of consumer disputes.

The Punjab government has also launched the SMART Environment Protection Force, a pioneering initiative aimed at addressing environmental challenges through technology and innovation. The force is equipped with advanced tools, including drone surveillance, real-time Air Quality Index monitors, and mobile laboratories, to ensure a cleaner and greener future for the province.
These combined efforts reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing public welfare through targeted financial support and regulatory reforms.
