ISLAMABAD (PEN): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has published the next special edition, Issue 60/2024, of the World of Diplomacy journal.
This special edition is dedicated to the theme:
“Mine Action in Azerbaijan: Clearing Liberated Lands for a Safe and Prosperous Life.”
The main objective of this special edition is to inform the international community about the scale of Armenia’s mine terrorism in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation, as well as the dangers posed by these mines. Additionally, it aims to encourage international assistance in demining efforts across these areas.
The journal includes the address by H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to participants of the international conference titled “Reducing the Environmental Impact of Mines – Mobilizing Resources for a Safe and Green Future”. It also features articles by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, as well as contributions from government officials, representatives of international organizations, and partners engaged in humanitarian mine clearance activities. Furthermore, interviews with individuals affected by mine explosions are also presented.
The journal highlights important documents adopted at international organizations and conferences concerning mine-related issues, initiated by Azerbaijan.
Over the course of 30 years of occupation, Armenia deliberately planted millions of landmines and unexploded ordnances across Azerbaijani territories. As a result of Armenia’s policy, which violates international humanitarian law, Azerbaijan is now among the most mine-contaminated countries in the world.
The widespread contamination of liberated territories with landmines and unexploded ordnance not only delays Azerbaijan’s reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts but also poses a severe threat to human life and health. In this regard, humanitarian demining remains one of the country’s top priorities.
