ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have issued weather alerts as thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to affect multiple districts starting this week.
According to officials, dust storms, wind gusts, and thunderstorms are forecast to begin Wednesday and persist until May 4 across central and northern Punjab, including Lahore. Similar weather conditions are expected in several parts of KP from Thursday onward.
Punjab on High Alert
The PDMA Punjab, acting on directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has mobilized emergency protocols across the province. Key departments — including health, education, irrigation, local government, and construction — have been placed on alert, along with support agencies like WASA, Punjab Police, and Civil Defense.
“Citizens are advised to remain indoors and avoid open spaces during thunderstorms to protect themselves from lightning,” said the PDMA Director General.
Residents have been urged to dial the PDMA helpline 1129 in the event of emergencies caused by severe weather.
KP Prepares for Widespread Showers
Meanwhile, KP’s PDMA has also issued advisories for expected intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms across both settled and tribal districts from Thursday through May 4.
Regions including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Buner are forecast to experience wet conditions. Rain is also expected in tribal areas such as Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, and Waziristan, as well as central KP areas like Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, and Kohat.
Local administrations have been instructed to stay alert and ensure readiness of emergency response teams.
