ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s top javelin thrower and Olympic medalist Arshad Nadeem is setting his sights on gold at the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship, marking his return to major international competition since the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Speaking to media in Lahore, Nadeem expressed confidence in his preparation and focus.
“This is my first big competition after the Olympics. I’ve been working hard and I’m fully focused on delivering my best,” said the national record-holder, who has been undergoing intensive training for the past five months.
Focus on Self-Improvement
Known for his discipline and drive, Nadeem emphasized that his greatest competition is with himself.
“My contest is always with Arshad Nadeem. I just want to perform at my best. Whenever I give my best in an event, I find myself in a position to win gold,” he said.
He also outlined his long-term goals, which include securing top positions in global tournaments.
“I’m targeting gold in the World Championships, Asian Championships, Asian Games, and the Diamond Leagues,” he stated.
Eyes on Los Angeles 2028
Looking ahead, Nadeem confirmed his plans for the next Olympic cycle.
“I plan to compete in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The year leading up to it will be dedicated to Olympic preparation,” he added.
Coach Confident in Form
Nadeem’s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, shared his optimism about the athlete’s readiness and mindset.
“His preparation is on point. He is once again determined to deliver a strong performance,” said Butt.
He also addressed the pressure surrounding expectations.
“We don’t need to prove anything. For us, this is just another event. Pressure is actually a good thing — without it, you can’t perform.”
According to the coach, Nadeem will take part in two to three international competitions before the World Championships in September as part of his performance build-up.
