ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Babusar Top, the popular mountainous pass connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Gilgit-Baltistan, has officially reopened for all types of traffic following a six-month closure due to severe winter snowfall, according to the National Highway Authority (NHA).
Route to Gilgit-Baltistan Restored via Naran
The reopening allows uninterrupted travel between Naran and Gilgit-Baltistan, a vital route that had remained inaccessible since late 2024. The NHA confirmed that more than six glaciers had to be cleared using heavy machinery before traffic could resume safely.
Tourist Influx Expected as Scenic Route Reopens
The restoration of Babusar Top has already prompted an increase in tourist activity, as travelers head to the northern areas to enjoy the region’s striking natural beauty. Police checkpoints along the highway have been reactivated to ensure the safety and regulation of traffic flow.
“The road clearance marks the beginning of the tourist season, offering visitors a chance to experience the breathtaking snow-covered landscapes,” said officials.
Safety Advisory Issued for Travelers
Authorities have advised all travelers to adhere strictly to safety guidelines issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, especially as weather conditions in high-altitude regions can change rapidly.
Babusar Top is typically closed from late autumn through early summer due to heavy snowfall and the risk of avalanches. Its reopening is a key milestone in reestablishing road connectivity for locals and tourists alike.
