ISLAMABAD (PEN) : President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday conveyed his appreciation to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its continued support of Pakistan’s economic reform programme during a high-level meeting with the visiting IMF delegation.
Meeting Highlights Collaborative Progress
The IMF team was led by Jihad Azour, Director of the Fund’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. Also in attendance were Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, and other senior government officials.
President Zardari acknowledged the critical role played by the IMF in helping Pakistan maintain macroeconomic stability and move toward sustainable growth.
“The IMF programme has played a helpful role in stabilizing inflation, foreign exchange reserves, and the fiscal deficit,” members of the visiting delegation noted, expressing satisfaction with the pace and direction of economic reforms in the country.
Focus on Economic Reforms and Future Collaboration
During the meeting, President Zardari emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to implementing key reforms under the IMF framework.
He commended the Ministry of Finance and its leadership for their ongoing efforts to steer the economy toward recovery and long-term stability.
The discussions concluded with a mutual agreement to maintain close coordination, reinforcing shared goals for economic development and institutional reform.
