ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Dubai-based mountaineer Naila Kiani has etched her name in the annals of mountaineering history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to summit Mount Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak at 8,586 meters. This remarkable feat not only underscores her exceptional climbing prowess but also places her among an elite group of women globally who have scaled all 14 peaks exceeding 8,000 meters.

The ascent commenced at approximately 6:30 PM local time on Thursday, with Kiani and her team navigating through severe high-altitude conditions, including intense snowfall and sub-zero temperatures. Despite these formidable challenges, Kiani reached the summit, driven by unwavering determination and the support of her nation. Her achievement brings her closer to joining a rare and elite global record: becoming one of fewer than 20 women in history to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks.
A Message of Empowerment
During her descent, Kiani shared an inspiring message: “From Pakistan to Kanchenjunga, this summit is not just a personal milestone, it’s a message to every girl and woman in Pakistan and beyond: you are stronger than you think.” She further expressed, “I’m proud and grateful, but the journey has just started. Pakistan, this is for you.”

Kiani’s ascent of Kanchenjunga adds to her impressive list of accomplishments. She has previously summited 11 of the 14 eight-thousanders, making her the fastest Pakistani, male or female, to achieve this in under three years. Her dedication to mountaineering is matched by her commitment to social causes; she serves as a goodwill ambassador for several organizations supporting women’s education and youth empowerment through sports.
