ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the inclusion of fast bowler Abbas Afridi in the national T20I squad, replacing Mohammad Wasim Jr ahead of the series against Bangladesh.
Wasim Jr has been ruled out due to a side strain injury sustained during the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL). The injury has not healed sufficiently, and medical experts have advised the all-rounder to rest for at least a week.
“Wasim Jr sustained the injury during the Pakistan Super League and has yet to fully recover,” said sources familiar with the matter. “He is expected to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).”
Pakistan vs Bangladesh T20I Series
Pakistan is set to host Bangladesh for a T20I series beginning May 28 in Lahore. The match will mark the opening fixture of what is expected to be a closely contested series.
Abbas Afridi’s inclusion provides Pakistan with a promising pace option. Known for his death-over capabilities and sharp variations, Afridi will be aiming to make a strong impact in the absence of Wasim Jr.
Medical Outlook
The PCB’s medical panel continues to monitor Wasim Jr’s condition. While not considered a long-term injury, the board is taking precautionary measures to ensure his full recovery before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup preparations commence.
