ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed officials to lower the price of roti throughout the province following a recent drop in flour costs.
During a high-level meeting on commodity prices held on Thursday, the CM instructed the Price Control Department to promptly revise roti rates to ensure that the reduced flour prices benefit the public without delay.
“The new price of bread must reflect the reduction in flour prices,” Maryam Nawaz said. “I want the roti to become more affordable for every household. The benefit of this price cut must go directly to the people.”
Emphasizing the urgency of addressing food inflation, she pledged to bring bread prices down to “the lowest level in history,” highlighting that rising food costs disproportionately impact the poor.
The chief minister also called for strict monitoring of prices for essential food items, including chicken, vegetables, and pulses. Expressing concern over soaring poultry prices, she remarked, “The child of the poor used to eat chicken once a week. If chicken becomes expensive, the poor won’t be able to afford even that — I will not tolerate this at all.”
Officials were ordered to intensify market surveillance and take firm action against hoarders and profiteers. Maryam Nawaz reiterated her administration’s commitment to shielding vulnerable communities from the effects of food inflation.
This move comes amid growing public concern over the affordability of basic food staples in Punjab. Authorities are expected to implement the price adjustments immediately.
